Activities of the DCQ

The Dobermann Club of Queensland Inc hosts many Dobermann activities focused on by our wide and diverse membership. More detailed information on our various areas of activity can be obtained from the PUBLICITY OFFICER.
GENERAL MEETINGS
The Club's General Meetings are held at the Brisbane German Club, Vulture Street Woolloongabba commencing at 7:30pm
on the assigned night. A Committee Meetings are held at the conclusion of a General Meeting.
Parking is available in the grounds off Vulture Street (just opposite
the Gabba Cricket Grounds). A licensed bar and dining room are available so why not join us for a good wiener schnitzel prior to the
meeting? All members and guests are welcome. For a list of meeting dates, please contact the secretary.
Club members can Request An Agenda for this meeting.
TRAINING DAYS
Do you feel as if you're the only one with a naughty dog that won't heel or sit? Does the local obedience club
shudder when they see you coming with your Dobe? Or do you just need that extra little bit of encouragement to get you
out there competing with your dog? If this is the case, then you should consider participating in one of the DCQ's
Obedience & Agility Training Days. Dobermanns of all ages, and those Dobe wannabes, are welcome to participate for the very
low cost of $4 per dog. You do not need to be a member of the DCQ to participate - ALL Dobermanns and their owners are welcome.
Experienced Dobermann owners, plus obdedience and agility trainers will be on hand to give you instruction and advice on any training matter.
Training Days are also good for prospective puppy purchasers as it's a great chance to talk with members, breeders & trainers, plus you can see
just how smart Dobermanns really are. If you want to know more about the classes, please email Rhonda for more information.
Remember ... Don't Blame Them, Train Them!
SPECIALTY SHOWS
The DCQ conducts one Specialty show per year; an Open Show and a Specialty Championship Show. The DCQ supports the Open Show format, which gives opportunities for aspiring breed judges and appreciators, the chance to better acquaint themselves with our breed. The Specialty Championship Show is a major event on the Dobermann Showing calendar and attracts a large entry from around the country. Each year a breed specialist, from either Australia or overseas, presides over judging. In the last few years, the DCQ has been fortunate to have judge at their Specialty; Mr Damian Bourne (NT), Mr Ray Carlisle (USA), Dr May & Mr Arnold Jacobson (USA) and Mr Bill Garnett (USA).To see the results of past Championship Shows, please click here. We have had a change of format from previous years and both confirmation shows are now held in May on the same day, along with a restricted (this means Dobermanns only) Obedience, Agility & Jumping Trial. Please see the Schedule on the HOMEpage.
GENETIC TESTING
The Club fully supports and actively encourages genetic health testing and operates a Breed Profile program. Genetic Testing also forms a mandatory part of the rules of club membership. Please view the RULES page for more information or go to our CONTACTS page and email your query to one of our committee members.
WORKING APTITUDE EVALUATION & BREED SURVEY
The next WAE will be held in 2003. Details regarding date, time, venue and evaluator are still to be decided. To register your interest in completing a Working Aptitude Evaluation with your dobermann, please email the WAE Officer. Remember your dobermann must be a minimumof 18 months of age to participate in a WAE. A WAE walk-thru fact sheet can be found by clicking here. DOBE DAYS
People who purchase a Dobermann mainly do so because of companionship. Others will also want their dog for different reasons: to compete in the show ring, obedience, agility, tracking or for protection. The DCQ acknowledges these differences and seeks to develop a club that will cater for all of those owners' needs.
Dobe Days are an ideal opportunity for the DCQ to promote the breed in a positive manner and to encourage responsible dog ownership. Dobermann owners are encouraged to attend these days, with their Dobie and to participate in a day of fun and enjoyment with their favourite breed. At Dobe Days people can take part in fun events with their dogs, watch agility and obedience displays, ask those 'Dobie' questions and generally have a great time. Prospective breed purchasers are also encouraged to attend Dobe Days as it gives them a chance to discuss the pros and cons of owning a Dobermann with club members before taking the step of acquiring a Dobermann. Dobe Days are fun and educational days for all dobermanns and their people. They usually involve demonstrations and activities, a sausage sizzle and presentations.
PET EXPO
The DCQ loves participating in Pet Expos as they're a great way to show case our magnificent breed to the general public. They're also a fantastic way to promote responsible breed ownership and the importance of selecting the right breed of dog for the right person. The DCQ provides flyers and information on the Dobermann, as well as offering hands-on experience with the breed.
